According to Areavibes, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, has a 48% higher crime rate than the
national average, with violent crime up more than 54% of the national average and property
crimes averaging higher than 46% of the rest of the nation.
The rate of crime in Sault Ste. Marie is approximately 47.69 per 1,000 residents, according to CrimeGrade.org, making it considerably more dangerous than
surrounding areas throughout Ontario and Canada itself. Currently, Sault Ste. Marie has a D grade in terms of crime rate, making it higher than 83% of cities in
Canada, which is why it is so imperative to implement and execute our own safety initiatives as a local neighborhood watch group.
Our neighborhood watch is centered around monitoring activity surrounding St. Mary’s French Immersion Catholic School, located at 124 Gibbs St, Sault Ste.
Marie, ON P6A 5H5, Canada. However, the center of our neighborhood watch group is located on Robin Street, as we also monitor activity among an
additional school and surrounding neighborhood. The more neighborhoods are regions that are willing to work together, the easier it is to keep an eye on rising
crime rates to prevent crime from migrating to our own community.
